KEMAPCO® Signs Supply Contract for Advanced N₂O Abatement Project
On August 12, KEMAPCO® (Arab Fertilizers and Chemicals Industries Ltd.) signed a Supply Contract with Steinmüller Engineering GmbH (SE) for the engineering, delivery, and supervision of installation and commissioning of an advanced secondary nitrous oxide (N₂O) abatement system at its nitric acid plant in Aqaba, Jordan.
This contract follows a Grant Agreement between KEMAPCO® and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, under which GIZ is financing the procurement and installation of the new system. The project is funded by the German Government and implemented under the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) initiative. NACAG works worldwide to abate N₂O emissions from nitric acid plants, including in Jordan, where the government actively promotes sustainable industrial development.
The new technology is expected to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from KEMAPCO’s nitric acid production by around 80%, significantly lowering the company’s carbon footprint.
KEMAPCO® remains committed to its mission and core values, continually improving its operations in line with its environmental and sustainability policies. This project is another important milestone in advancing both local and global climate action goals.
