KEMAPCO® Seawater Desalination Plant
At KEMAPCO, we take pride in being the first private company in Jordan to establish a seawater desalination plant, a reflection of our dedication to sustainability and innovation. Our facilities intake more than 3,000 cubic meters per hour of seawater, initially used to cool our production plant. After the cooling process, the water is returned to the sea of the same quality and quantity.
But we didn’t stop there.
Instead of returning all the seawater, we have implemented a desalination process, producing 4.5 million cubic meters of clean, usable water annually. Of this, over 1 million cubic meters directly supports our operations, significantly reducing our dependency on Jordan’s scarce non-renewable water sources (mainly underground water). The remaining quantity is made available to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, contributing to the national water supply and supporting local communities.
Through such initiatives, KEMAPCO is rising to the forefront of both the fertilizers and chemical industry and sustainable environmental practices. By reducing our environmental footprint and addressing Jordan’s pressing water challenges, we demonstrate our ongoing commitment to both economic growth and sustainable development.
