Following the Government of Jordan undertaking to contribute efficiently in the global response to climate change, KEMAPCO has Signed a Grant Agreement with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) of Germany, by which GIZ will finance the purchasing and installation of nitrous oxide abatement technology at the KEMAPCO’s nitric acid plant in Aqaba.
The basis of this Grant is the commission from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Actions (BMWK) and takes place under the framework of the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG).
The project aims to reducing the Carbon Footprint of KEMAPCOs’ Nitric Acid Production by 80%. The NACAG initiative targets the mitigation of nitrous oxide emissions from the nitric acid industry on a global scale in several countries including Jordan whose government is fostering environment-friendly projects to transform its economic and industrial sectors.
KEMAPCO’s 120 KTons Nitric Acid plant production output is fully consumed in the production process of its high value of Potassium Nitrate fertilizer. The grant will be dedicated to procuring and installing advanced N2O abatement and monitoring equipment for KEMAPCO‘s Nitric acid plant. The significant investment will contribute greatly to reducing the emission of nitrous oxide (N2O), considered a potent Greenhouse gas.
KEMAPCO remains fully committed to its Mission and Core Values by applying continuous improvements and practices to its business plans and strategies. The project is aligned with KEMAPCO’s environmental & sustainability policies, it forms part of its next 5 years sustainability plan and is expected to be completed late 2025.”
